Nationals Fire Pitching Coach, Dodgers 20 Wins, Corey Kluber Breaks Arm, Red Sox Fortnite, Attendance Down

This week the Dodgers were the first team to get 20 wins. In the last three years the first team to win 20 games also won the World Series. That’s great news for the Dodgers because if there’s one thing that’s certain about baseball, it’s that it is a very predictable sport with extremely consistent outcomes. (Editor’s Note: The previous sentence is sarcasm.)

The struggling Nationals have fired pitching coach Derek Lilliquist. In other Nationals pitching news, Max Scherzer becoming the third-fastest pitcher to 2,500 career Ks and Stephen Strasburg reaching 1,500 career Ks in the fewest innings ever. So, congratulations to them and to their pitching coach– oh, wait.
Surgical Precision…
Indians ace Corey Kluber won’t need surgery on his broken right arm. Kluber sustained a non-displaced fracture of his ulna bone when he was hit by a line drive against Miami. The biggest surprise was that anyone from the Marlins could even hit the ball.
More Like Fort-Not…
A report came out earlier this week that the Red Sox had banned playing Fortnite in the clubhouse this season because players were spending too much time on it before games. Pitcher and noted video game enthusiast David Price said, “There is no ban on Fortnite. That’s not true.” Then he added, “I can quit whenever I want. IT’S NOT AN ADDICTION!”

MLB attendance is down again, but only slightly so. Last year the attendance drop was blamed mostly on bad weather, but this year rebuilding teams have seen the sharpest attendance drops. Compared to last April, overall attendance is down a total of about 80,000 fans – that’s the equivalent of two Yankees games or one Marlins season.
