This Week In Baseball – Dodgers Homers, Price Staying, Mattingly Complains, Rose Divorce, Puig Robbed

Seven Bombers for Seven Dodgers…Dodgers

Matt Kemp’s solo shot on Wednesday night upped his season total to 20 and gave Los Angeles their seventh 20 home run hitter this season which tied an MLB record for the most 20-homer hitters on a team in a single season. The Dodgers group includes Kemp, Cody Bellinger, Yasmani Grandal, Enrique Hernandez, Max Muncy, Joc Pederson and Yasiel Puig. As impressive as that is, they’re just barely hanging on for a playoff spot. If they don’t make it in those guys will have as many playoff home runs as me.

The Price Is Right…

David Price isn’t planning on leaving the Boston Red Sox at the end of this season. He could opt out of his long-term deal that guarantees him $127 million over the next four years. He hasn’t performed as well as fans had expected but appears to have turned a page with his recent success and is now focusing on accomplishing a new goal: winning in the postseason… and spending $127 million.

Do You Remember September…

Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly is asking Major League Baseball to examine the September roster expansion rules because it changes how teams play the final month of the season. It’s understandable—opposing teams already have an advantage over Mattingly because his team is managed by Don Mattingly.

A Rose by Any Other Name…

As part of his divorce proceedings from his estranged wife Carol, all-time MLB hits leader Pete Rose said he is in poor health and can barely walk. He is in a legal battle to block his wife from receiving spousal support. Rose claims his income has dropped to less than 50 percent of what it was a year ago. I for one believe him him, I mean it’s not like he has a history of lying or anything.

He Was Robbed…

For the fourth time in 18 months, Dodgers right fielder and Cuban import, Yasiel Puig, has had his home burglarized. The reported break-in happened while the Los Angeles Dodgers battled the Colorado Rockies in a crucial division game Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. It wasn’t immediately clear if anything was stolen or what the value of those items might be. Might be time for Puig to invest in some locks for his home.
