Episode 91: MLB Resolutions; Not-So-Great Lakes; ‘Holy Grail’ quotes; Machado-Harper-Realmuto News; Arbitration Paydays; GLASS; NFL Playoffs; Jeff Bezos
First and foremost, we decided we better address MLB resolutions in Around the Horn before January is over! Jed rapid fires through all 30 teams. It’s a treat for the ol’ earholes.
Episode 91 of Foul Territory — the Tim Spooneybarger (or Tim the Enchanter) edition — gets off to a goofy start with an epic smackdown by Jed of the Great Lakes being not so great. And Tim Spooneybarger leads us down a “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” rabbit hole complete with Jed’s story of going toe-to-toe with Tom Cruise on quoting “Holy Grail”!
In this week’s Headlines, there are no updates on Manny, Bryce and J.T. (what else is new?) other than Machado’s agent going banana’s over what he claims is false reporting that is low-balling his client. In other news, D.J. LeMahieu and Adam Ottavino sign with the Yankees, Sonny Gray is close to being dealt, Cody Allen signs with the Angels, Russell Martin is shipped back to the Dodgers, Mookie Betts and Jacob deGrom get record arbitration deals that will soon be shattered by Nolan Arenado’s arb contract, Kyler Murray declares for NFL draft, Trevor Bauer gets into Twitter hot water (again), Wil Myers declares he is an outfielder now, Melvin Upton opts for B.J. (who doesn’t?), Angels extend lease through 2020, and Tim Tebow gets engaged to a former Miss Universe.
This week’s Starting Nine is for the movie “GLASS,” with nine players with M. Night Shyamalan movie names. The Happy New Year edition of Around the Horn (finally!) focuses on MLB resolutions for all 30 teams, and Extra Innings takes a look at the NFL playoffs, Netflix’s controversies with “Bird Box,” Cardi B and City Girls “Twerk” video, Jeff Bezos gets divorced and action film star Chris Pratt gets engaged to action film star Arnold’s daughter, Katherine Schwarzenegger.
