Episode 90: Transactions Galore! Rays Shrink Trop; Tommy Pham; Oracle Park; Coachella; NFL Playoffs; National Championship Blowout; Fiji Water Girl
First and foremost, Happy New Year from Jed and Jon—now let’s talk about the bounty of transactions over the past few weeks.
Episode 90 of Foul Territory—the Adam (not Alan) Cimber edition—is a catch-up of all the transactions that have occurred since before Christmas, and there is a bevy of transactions!
Still no movement on Bryce Harper, Manny Machado or J.T. Realmuto, but expect some action in the coming days since the countdown to spring training is on! But there were plenty of transactions: Yasmani Grandal with the Brewers, Yusei Kikuchi to the Mariners, David Robertson to the Phillies, Zach Britton and Troy Tulowitzki with the Yankees, Shelby Miller with the Rangers, Brian Dozier to the Nats, Nelson Cruz with the Twins and Andrew Miller to the Cardinals. On the trade front, the Brewers traded Domingo Santana and Keon Broxton to the Mariners and Mets, respectively, and the Reds acquired Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig and Alex Wood from the Dodgers.
In other Headlines, CC Sabathia had a heart procedure following heavy-sweating helping with his diagnosis, the Rays lowered their seating capacity by eliminating the upper deck seating at the Trop (oh, that should make a huge difference!), still Tommy Pham says the Rays are a team without a fan base, Royals prospect Brady Singer paid of his parents debt for Christmas, Kyle Murray looks to the NFL (much to the A’s chagrin), the Mariners counter Lorena Martin complaints with laundry list of their own issues and the Giants will now call Oracle Park home.
This week’s Starting Nine honors the upcoming lineup for Coachella with players with Coachella band names, and Extra Innings wraps the show with a look outside the world of baseball, including the NFL playoffs, Clemson’s drubbing of Alabama, Gwyneth Paltrow’s honeymoon with her husband (and ex-husband), RKelly’s further demise and, of course, the Fiji Water Girl dominating the Golden Globes headlines.
