First and foremost, who had the New York Yankees winning three straight to dethrone the reigning AL Champs?

Episode 42 — the Jackie Robinson Episode — of Foul Territory: A Baseball Podcast is all in on the postseason with reviews of the Dodgers blasting the D-backs, the Astros steamrolling the Red Sox and the Yankees shocking the Indians. The Cubs-Nationals game had yet to be played, but that didn’t stop hosts Jed Rigney and Jon Sumple from commenting on a fabricated POV of each team winning the yet-to-be-played Game Five in D.C. And how about those starting pitchers in the playoffs? A handful of horrendous starts. And Clayton Kershaw giving up four solo home runs and still winning? Yeah, crazy town. On the other hand, there was Stephen Strasburg’s “crappy” domination in Game Four in the NLDS.

Jed, a Red Sox and Dodgers fan, is happy and sad, but more happy than sad because he expected the Sox to lose. Still, the Yankees winning, has him “cutting” during the episode.

In addition to the playoffs, there’s Shohei Otani “cleaning up” his ankle to get ready for his journey to MLB, Jose Bautista free-falling from relevancy after being released by the Jays, John Farrell being dismissed by the Red Sox, the Mets moving their AAA affiliate to Syracuse and the Arizona Fall League getting underway.

This week’s Starting Nine seems like a tribute to the Yankees advancing, but it’s actually Jed honoring the city he calls home, for now: Nine players with New York neighborhood names.

The Jackie Robinson Episode ends with Extra Innings and discussions about Jerry Jones promising players won’t play if they disrespect the flag, Dolphins O-line coach resigning after a video surfaces of him snorting a “white substance,” the US Men’s National Team being eliminated from World Cup consideration after another pitiful loss and, last but not least, Harvey Weinstein’s fall from grace after sexual assault allegations are revealed, and revealed, and revealed.
