First and foremost, it’s time for the MLB playoffs! Who are you picking to win the World Series?

Episode 41 of Foul Territory: A Baseball Podcast starts off on a somber note with a moment of silence for Las Vegas, as well as a nod to the greatness of the late, great Tom Petty, who is also honored in this week’s Starting Nine with players who have Tom Petty song names.

Jed Rigney and Jon Sumple shift to lighter subject matter in this week’s Headlines with discussions about the MLB playoffs and thoughts on who will advance in the Wild Card games and on to the World Series. Will Max Scherzer and Bryce Harper be healthy enough to help the Nats get past the Cubs? Are the Indians really that good? Are the Cubs really that much worse than last year? There’s also discussion about Braves GM John Coppolella resigning amid international controversy and Terry Collins resigning as the Mets manager. Also, what will the Royals do with Hosmer, Cain, Escobar and Moustakas? What would Jon do (or not do)? Will Giancarlo Stanton halt a trade or welcome one — and who are the top candidates for landing Mr. 59? We also chat about Andrew (or is it Austin) Romine playing all nine positions for the Tigers in one game, the World Series MVP being named after Willie Mays (was there a better option?) and MLB topping 40,000 strikeouts in a season for the first time ever.

The show ends, as usual, with Extra Innings (a look outside the world of baseball) where Hugh Hefner and LaVar Ball take center stage — one who is no longer with us and the other who won’t be going away for a very long time.
