Will Giancarlo Stanton hit 62 home runs? How about 73? Stay tuned!

Episode 35 of Foul Territory: A Baseball Podcast was recorded on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, following a rather disturbing weekend in the good ol’ U.S. of A. BUT, we won’t be talking about that. We’re here to provide a distraction — a healing vibe, if you will. So, if you were expecting some white supremacy convo, you’ll be disappointed. If you expect baseball and pop culture, well, you’ve come to the right place.

This week’s Headlines kick off with Giancarlo Stanton’s rage against NL pitching. His current run is one for the ages and well worth the price of admission (or watching on TV or video highlights). Now that he has cleared waivers, will Giancarlo Stanton be playing in Miami or for a contender by the end of August? Maybe the Nationals? With Bryce Harper going down in a heap, yet avoiding serious injury, the Nationals sure could use an extra outfielder for the stretch. How about that Rafael Devers? The 20-year-olds’ HR off a Aroldis Chapman 103 MPH fastball is the hardest thrown pitch hit for a home run ever recorded. Did we mention he’s only 20? Astros made a huge (not) move in signing Tyler Clippard, while Neil Walker is heading to a better fit with the Brewers. Jon is quite relieved that his Marlins have been sold to the Derek Jeter group — will this spell the end of the home run monstrosity at Marlins Park? Let’s hope so. The Players Weekend is a good idea. The uniform color schemes, though, are spew-inducing. Don’t believe us? Take a look. Aaron Judge signs a deal to sign autographs and Disney acquires a majority state in BAMTech, and Jed is pissed about it.

This week’s Seventh Inning Stretch adds a 3-up/3-down feel [shout out to an oldie but goodie segment (kinda)] in reviewing the three best and three worst films made from Stephen King stories. The lineup: Shawshank Redemption, The Shining, Stand By Me, Dreamcatcher, The Lawnmower Man, Carrie (remake). What three are the ups?

Are You Buying It? focuses on the AL Wildcard race. The Yankees seem to be a lock, and the Mariners appear to be the best of the rest until they aren’t, which could be any day now. Jed’s definitely not buying the Twins, Orioles or Rays.

Last but not least, Extra Innings takes a look at things outside the baseball world, like Ezekiel Elliott’s six-game suspension, Tiger Woods hopped up on a fistful of meds, Ronaldo’s suspension, Taylor Swift’s ass- and headline-grabbing court case and Willie Nelson getting too high for his own good.
