Episode 31: MLB trade talk, Carlos Correa injury, MadBum return, expansion, GOT
It’s that time: MLB trade talk season!
Episode 31 of Foul Territory: A Baseball Podcast will go down in history as the “Skype’s a Bitch” episode after two dropped calls created havoc for Jed Rigney and Jon Sumple. Thanks to the wonders of audio editing, we were able to stitch a show together. Jed opens the show talking about a horrible haircut, but we’ll never hear the full story thanks to said glitches.
In this week’s Headlines, it’s all about MLB trade talk! Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson are heading to the Nationals, and just minutes before the podcast was taped, J.D. Martinez was traded to the D-backs. And while Jed and Jon were convinced during the show that Todd Frazier would be headed to Boston, he was traded minutes after the show to the Yankees along with David Robertson. So much for the Red Sox! Other headlines include the DL returns of Mike Trout and Madison Bumgarner Carlos Correa and Michael Pineda heading to the DL, Dansby Swanson potentially heading to the minors, Pablo Sandoval’s expensive departure from Boston, Jon Lester stealing a base, Jackie Bradley stealing a home run, the Dodgers wanting $12 million annually for naming rights of the field at Dodger Stadium and MLB looking at Montreal, Charlotte and Mexico City as possible expansion sites.
Starting Nine returns! This week, Jed tells a story about celebrating summer by using player’s names at a backyard barbecue. Listen in, it will all make sense; promise!
Instead of Are You Buying It?, this week is all about the approaching trade deadline and discussions about where Sonny Gray, Zack Britton, , Pat Neshek, and Todd Frazier and David Robertson (before they were traded later in the day).
Show wraps, as usual, with Extra Innings and a look outside the world of baseball. Jed tries to get Jon to butcher Garbine “Garby” Muguruza’s name, but Jon is a tennis fan and prepared. What follow was a 10 minute discussion about tennis which was the most tangential tangent ever on the show — so we cut a majority of it. This isn’t a tennis blog! We also discuss Michael Vick’s commentary on Colin Kaepernick, the next Dr. Who being a woman and the new season of Game of Thrones.
