They Are the Champions...
In what turned out to be one of the less-interesting World Series match-ups of recent years, the Boston Red Sox outplayed the Los Angeles Dodgers to win their fourth championship in the last 15 years. Meanwhile the Dodgers will have to wait another year to snap their title drought. No word yet what augmentations they will get. Maybe a complete facelift or possibly just a nip/tuck here and there with some fillers.
Staycation...
The Dodgers and their ace starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw have agreed to a new contract for three year and $93 million. Unfortunately for Kershaw, his performance has tapered off a little from his previous elite level, so he'll have to find a way to deal with only NINETY THREE MILLION DOLLARS.
Agent Orange and Blue...
The New York Mets have hired former agent Brodie Van Wagenen to replace Sandy Alderson as the club's general manager. This may seem like a weird hiring to you and everyone in and around baseball, but don't worry. It's not like the Wilpons have ever been burned by non-baseball people before. *cough* Bernie Madoff *cough*
Real Talk...
All-Star J.T. Realmuto's agent says he won't be signing a contract extension with the Marlins and expects the catcher to be traded to another team before spring. This seems a bit extreme but it's tough to play for the Marlins because there are more people on the field than in the stands.
How Do You Spell Relief...
The 2018 winner of the Mariano Rivera Reliever Award is Edwin Diaz of the Mariners and the Trevor Hoffman Reliever Award winner is Josh Hader of the Brewers. These two pitchers combined to strike out 267 batters in the regular season – just slightly more than that 18-inning World Series game.
