Quote of the Week

“ It's like a hero coming back to town. ”

– Matt Carpenter, Cardinals third baseman on Albert Pujols

This Week in Baseball

Ex-Rays...

The Rays have received permission from MLB's executive council to explore a plan in which they would play home games in both the Tampa Bay area and Montreal. Nobody was more surprised to hear about this unusual solution than Tampa Bay's five season ticket holders.

Safe at Home

Albert Pujols returned to St. Louis for the first time since he left for Anaheim eight years ago. Pujols got five standing ovations – one during the pregame, one before each of his three plate appearances and one when he came out for a pinch-runner in the seventh. We get it. Cardinals fans appreciated that he didn't re-sign with the team.

Cursed...

Mets manager Mickey Callaway cursed at a reporter in the team’s clubhouse after a loss to the Cubs on Sunday. Then pitcher Jason Vargas had to be restrained from charging the reporter during the confrontation. Usually these kinds of attacks only come from politicians.

Supplemental Income...

Athletics pitcher Frankie Montas was suspended 80 games by MLB after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. Montas stated, “I unknowingly ingested a contaminated supplement that I had purchased over the counter at a nutrition store." Montas was enjoying a breakout season and will now seek to find a "nutrition store" with less "contaminated" supplements that the league "can't test for" but will still  "enhance" his "performance."

Biggest Apple...

Less than halfway through the season, Pete Alonso has broken the Mets rookie home run record originally set in 1983 by Darryl Strawberry. But no one will ever break Strawberry's lines of cocaine record.

On the Air

“ Do you know that prostitution is legal in Ecuador? It is? I'll be there next weekend. ”

    Because this John Means Business

While I prefer not to admit it, I watch Baltimore Oriole games when John Means pitches. Perhaps because he pitches quickly, efficiently, and has worked to an ERA of 2.67 so far this season. Meaning that Means makes Baltimore baseball …
